Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely accepted as the birthplace of all humanity. The earliest findings of humanoids date from 7 million years ago while Homo sapiens (modern humans) bones found in Ethiopia date back some 200,000 years. Africa is the only continent that stretches through both the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere and the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere.
